Are you a Company Director? DIN Required by 30 Nov. 2022
Are you a Company Director? If so, you will be required to apply for a DIN.
A Director Identification Number (DIN) is a unique number used to identify directors of companies personally, rather than by company.
All Company Directors will be required to have a unique DIN allocated to them including SMSF Corporate Trustee Directors, charities and not-for-profit organisations that are public companies limited by guarantee.
The Australian Business Registry service will store these numbers and be able to identify individual directors and where they have worked. This will help to prevent the use of false or fraudulent director identities.
The number is a unique 15-digit identifier and will stay with the Director for life.
There is a phased approach to the implementation:
- individuals who became a director on or before 31 October 2021 – must apply by 30 November 2022
- individuals who become a director between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 – must apply within 28 days of appointment, and
- individuals who become a director from 5 April 2022 onwards – must apply before appointment.
Directors need to apply for their own director ID. Applications can be made online using a myGovID or via phone or application form.
